The Owners Manual is a good resource.Īutozone's free online Repair Guide is another source of fusebox information and illustrations. NOTE: You really need to have a diagram in front of you when looking for these specific fuse/relay locations. The previous three were remans.1996-1998 ModelsEngine Compartment - Fuse/Relay "N"ġ999-2003 ModelsEngine Compartment fusebox - fuse #5, and relay #207 The last P/S/ pump to go in was genuine Ford OEM. I suspected there was metal shavings in the lines that weren't removed by the shop. I do put this poor car through some tough miles, with the work I do.Īs to why I'd have three P/S pump failures in as many days (two with barely a mile on them!) I have no idea. The early burn-outs of bulbs in the instrument cluster I attribute to driving over 1400 hours per year in the early morning hours. I do lay a towel over the armrest to protect the electronics, but some moisture is bound to seep in. The electric issues with the window could be explained by the fact that I use this car to deliver newspapers in all weather, with the window down. The fuel gauge seems to be epidemic in the 2000 (from what I've read hear and elsewhere). a LOT of dust though, up inside the dash when I had it apart. The upholstery was in good shape, no funky smells. I've never seen any evidence of water having been in the car, though. it was purchased in July '04 with 74k miles on it (about par for the course for a retired fleet vehicle I think, in terms of age and milage). With your electrical gremlins, you sure it wasn't a flood car? or very determined shade-tree types like myself who refuse to be beaten by a hunk of steel and plastic! :evillol: I'm afraid the touch anything outside the cabin, having seen how difficult Ford made these to work on. It seems that Ford designed this vehicle for maintenance only by dealer service personnel $$$. that required taking the driver-side dash completely apart and buying a set of the Ford radio removal tools. and then there is the issue of burned out illumination lamps behind the instrument cluster. had to take the doors apart from the inside completely for that one. I suspect it's electrical/switch related. the motor is OK (no dimming of the dome light). on that I've torn the door completely apart and used silicon grease on the tracks. The driver-side electric window operates intermittently, like Russian roulette. The gas gauge never worked (it pretended to, and left me stranded ONCE). I've had issue after issue with this Taurus since we bought it used in July '04. Well works great now.ĭunno, but I had one mechanic tell me after having to replace three power steering pumps in a row "you don't need a mechanic, you need an exorcist!" When I got the pump out, the arm to the sender was bent.

I am SO happy to *finally* have a working fuel gauge on this car! It's been 3 years of wondering and using the trip odomoter to guess how much gas I had in the tank. almost got stuck, but hey - it was worth it!

Worked like a charm! I didn't even need to remove the climate control/radio face to get at it - just climbed up under the driver side dash with my feet dangling out the passenger side. I picked up the errant part at my local Ford dealer (though 2007 price here is $45) and snapped it in right there in the parking lot.

but this forum saved me BIG bucks on a useless mechanic fishing expedition into my fuel tank.
